What is Holidays on Hennepin?

Holidays on Hennepin is a month-long event along Hennepin Avenue in Uptown running from Thanksgiving through New Years. The goal of Holidays on Hennepin is to put the neighborhood back on the map as a major destination for food, entertainment, and retail. The event will closely follow the final completion of the Hennepin reconstruction project and is an ideal time to reintroduce Uptown to many new customers and visitors. We want to highlight the continuing vitality and creativity of local businesses!

Participation is free for all Hennepin-area businesses. The event is funded by a grant from the city of Minneapolis as well as local neighborhood organizations. A major marketing campaign will provide free advertising for your business via social media, website, print advertising, a business passport, and other media opportunities.

How can my business participate?

Decorations
Participating businesses are asked to decorate for the holiday season—dense, visually creative, and over-the-top decorations are highly encouraged.

Passport
Participating businesses will have space in a printed passport as well as on the website. This can include business information, a promotion, or a special deal.

Events
Businesses are encouraged to consider putting on special events, which will be included in the event calendar.

Holidays on Hennepin is designed to allow a flexible range of participation from businesses. We encourage all partners to consider what sort of participation works best for them, and best matches their clientele. We see the incredible diversity of our local businesses as a key strength. We want attendees to feel like each business they visit offers new, festive surprises.

We understand that many local businesses have experienced significant financial strain in recent years and happy to accommodate whatever forms of participation are possible. We may be able to provide small financial stipends and/or volunteers to support decorating at some businesses. We are committed to including any and all businesses in the eligibility area and will work with you and your business to ensure you can take part.

To be included in the printed passport, please complete the Business Participation Form by October 15th. Businesses are still be welcome to submit information to be included in digital marketing after that date.

Who’s Organizing Holidays on Hennepin?

The event is being planned by the Hennepin Joint Committee, a group supported by neighborhood associations for Lowry Hill, Lowry Hill East, East Isles, East Bde Maka Ska, and several other local partners. It is funded in part by a grant from the Minneapolis Business District Support Grants program.
