Privacy policy
How Holidays on Hennepin collects, uses and protects what you share with us.
Who we are
Holidays on Hennepin is a project of the Hennepin Joint Committee, a non-profit, volunteer-run committee of Hennepin-area residents, neighborhood associations and local businesses in Minneapolis. This policy covers holidaysonhennepin.com and the Holiday Passport.
What we collect
We only collect what you give us, or what we need to run the site:
- Messages. When you use the contact form: your name, email, phone number if you add it, the topic and your message.
- The mailing list. Your email address, if you sign up or tick the box on a form.
- Event submissions. Your name and email, the business or organization, the event’s details and any pictures you send. Pictures stay private until we approve the event; then they appear with it on the calendar.
- Accounts and the Holiday Passport. Your name, email and a password (stored only in scrambled form), plus the stamps, saved places and rewards in your passport.
- How the site is used. Google Analytics and the Meta (Facebook) Pixel record the pages you visit, roughly where you are and what device you use, so we can see how people find the site and reach them with our posts. The site also counts visits itself, without cookies.
Cookies
Google Analytics and the Meta Pixel set their own cookies when you visit. You can block them in your browser’s settings, use Google’s Analytics opt-out add-on, and manage how Meta uses them in your Facebook ad preferences.
The site’s own banner asks before setting a cookie that remembers your visits, so we can improve the site and follow up on enquiries. If you agree, it lasts up to a year; your choice is remembered for six months. Visits from people who never contact us are forgotten after 90 days. Signing in sets a cookie that keeps you signed in.
Some pages show content from other services, such as maps (OpenStreetMap), videos (YouTube) and documents (Canva, Google Docs). Those services may set their own cookies when you view them.
How we use it
To answer your messages, review and publish events, run the Holiday Passport and its rewards, send the updates you asked for, understand how the site is used, and keep it working and secure. We don’t sell your information.
Who we share it with
With the services that run the site for us, and only what they need: hosting (Vercel), our database (Neon), and the service that delivers our email. Google and Meta receive information about your visits through their tags, as above, under their own privacy policies. Business sign-ups and volunteer sign-ups are collected through Tally, and donations through Donorbox; their own privacy policies apply there. We may also share information if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
Messages, sign-ups and submissions are kept as the record of each season until you ask us to delete them. A log of emails we’ve sent is kept for 90 days. Passport accounts stay until you or we close them.
Your choices
You can unsubscribe from any email we send, decline the cookie banner, or ask us to show, correct or delete what we hold about you by emailing info@holidaysonhennepin.com.
Children
The site isn’t meant for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their information. Families are welcome to use the Holiday Passport with an adult’s account.
Changes
If we change this policy we’ll update it here and change the date above.
